Lake Garda is widely regarded as one of the best inland windsurfing destinations in the world, drawing riders from across Europe to the northern end of the lake where two reliable thermal winds create ideal conditions. The Pelér blows from the north in the early morning hours (typically from midnight until late morning), while the Ora del Garda picks up from the south around midday and continues through the afternoon. This predictable pattern means experienced windsurfers can ride twice a day, choosing different conditions for different styles. The epicentre of the windsurfing scene is the stretch of shoreline between Torbole and Malcesine on the eastern bank, where rental shops, schools, and competitions cluster along the waterfront. Beginners benefit from the sheltered bays and the relatively warm water temperature (reaching 22 to 24 degrees Celsius in summer), while advanced riders tackle the choppier open-water conditions further from shore. The annual Garda Trentino events attract professional riders and spectators to the area. Equipment rental typically includes boards, sails of various sizes, wetsuits, and harnesses, and most schools offer courses in English, German, and Italian.
